The fact that national road no. 18, sometimes disparagingly called the “Patatajka” or the “road of shame”, would be upgraded to motorway standards has been reported in these pages many times. The road manager, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, has just published a video on YouTube showing how the work proceeded in 2021–2023:

Road workers summarise:

Drivers can already use 50 km of the A18 motorway from the border with Germany to the border between Lubuskie and Lower Silesian Voivodeships. In mid-October, we plan to open the last of the four sections of the route to the Golnice interchange (Lower Silesian Voivodeship) to traffic. This means that drivers will be able to use 70 km of the A18 motorway.
