We wrote about the matter in the article The stench and rats are bothering residents of Kraszewskiego Street. In 2008, Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji w Bolesławcu undertook measures to eliminate the odor nuisance from the wastewater treatment plant and the collectors conveying sewage to it. Equipment was purchased with which PWiK employees continuously monitor hydrogen sulfide concentrations in the sewers. Installations for neutralizing odor-producing compounds were also installed on the most troublesome sewers, and the sewer manholes on Staszica, Łąkowa and Graniczna Streets were replaced with airtight ones.

In 2009, the company, together with the Bolesławiec municipal authorities, carried out a project to plant screening vegetation. Specially selected plant species and their arrangement will provide a natural barrier against unpleasant odors in the coming years. Moreover, in December last year, the chamber for incoming sewage overflow and the inlet channel to the wastewater treatment plant were sealed.

In July this year, construction of installations for creating odor barriers was completed. The preparations used at the Bolesławiec wastewater treatment plant do not contain toxic compounds.

A commission assessed the effectiveness of the equipment. Its members included representatives of the municipal authorities and city councilors: Eugeniusz Kowalski, Leszek Chudzik and Bolesław Nowak. The effectiveness of PWiK’s measures is also confirmed by the fact that, for some time now, the company has no longer received complaints about the “troublesome neighbor”—as the Bolesławiec wastewater treatment plant was once called.
