At 10:00, the ceremony commander, Col. Dariusz Bielecki, submitted a report to the commander of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade, Brig. Gen. Grzegorz Barabieda. Accompanied by the unit’s deputy commander, the commander greeted the unit’s standards and the soldiers standing in formation.
He added:
After the national flag was raised on the flagpole to the sound of the national anthem, performed by the Military Orchestra from Żagań, an order was read directing the Polish Military Contingent to the area of the military mission and changing its chain of command. Representing the Commander General of the Branches of the Armed Forces, Brig. Gen. Grzegorz Barabieda, and representing the Operational Commander of the Branches of the Armed Forces, Col. Mariusz Maruta, signed a protocol on the transfer of command over the soldiers of the 8th rotation of the Polish Military Contingent UNIFIL Lebanon.
The commander of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade said: “Today’s ceremony is of particular significance. After several months of preparation, soldiers whose most important task will be to fulfill the mission במסגרת the Polish Military Contingent in Lebanon are ready to depart. I would like to emphasize that the people heading to Lebanese soil were not chosen by chance. Through years of conscientious service, they have proven their determination and readiness to make sacrifices for the good of our armed forces and to build Poland’s international standing. They are professionals with experience gained during exercises, not only in the country but also abroad.
The contingent commander, Lt. Col. Radosław Wujda, said: “Over the past months, during our many months of preparation and training, I have come to know you very well, and I know that commanding you in the mission area will be a great honor for me, but also a challenge, as we must perform the many tasks assigned to us in the best possible way.”
The soldiers flying out on the mission face a range of tasks and challenges. The main objective is to restore international peace and security; in addition, they will have to monitor the withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from southern Lebanon, support the government in restoring effective authority, and assist local communities through civil-military cooperation.
The armored brigade added: “Very soon, the soldiers will move to the theater of operations to carry out their assigned tasks. We wish them soldiers’ luck!”
