On Tuesday, 15 August, inspectors from the Jelenia Góra branch of the Lower Silesian Road Transport Inspection—due to the restriction on heavy goods vehicle traffic in force that day—carried out checks on the A4 motorway near the Godzieszów exit.
7 drivers ignored the regulations. Inspectors: “One of the checks concerned the transport of an excavator bucket and a passenger car. The inspection revealed that this was not the only problem involving the drivers operating the vehicle. Instead of two, as many as three truckers were in the vehicle’s cab.
They explain: “They were travelling from Podkarpacie to France and, in order to apparently comply with the legally permitted driving time, one of the drivers first drove the vehicle for approximately 550 km, while the other two travelled in the vehicle without their tachograph cards logged in. After the first driver had finished driving, the other two logged in their cards before the border with Germany. By forming a crew in this way, they continued their journey towards France. Instead of getting out of the vehicle and taking a rest break, the first driver continued the journey with the other drivers.
The outcome? All three had their driving licences confiscated for three months, and the transport operation was halted. Wrocław Road Transport Inspection: “The drivers were fined, while administrative proceedings were initiated against the businesses and the people responsible for managing the transport, with financial penalties possible.
