The 58th symposium took place in summer 2022. The artists worked on their pieces at three Bolesławiec plants: “Ceramika Artystyczna” Artistic Handicraft Cooperative, “Manufaktura w Bolesławcu” Sp. z o.o. Sp. K., and the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Plants Sp. z o.o. in Bolesławiec, as well as in the ceramic studios of BOK – MCC.
Ten artists from different parts of Europe took part in the symposium:
- Hanna Drul from Ukraine,
- Beka Tabagua from Georgia,
- Natalia Dzidowska from Poland,
- Iryna Radkiewicz from Belarus,
- Tamara Bereza from Ukraine,
- Ihor Bereza from Ukraine,
- Weronika Wójcik from Poland,
- Marta Berezhnenko from Ukraine,
- Danielle Ritchie from Scotland,
- Janina Bany- Kozlowska from Poland.
We would like to draw your attention to the strong representation of artists from Ukraine in this group—four of them. The competition jury, of course, recognized the artistic merit of their applications. On the other hand, this is our Bolesławiec artistic thank-you to that courageous country. At the same time, it is proof of the claim that art plays an overwhelmingly romantic role in the life of every nation. We hope that in these times of turmoil and confusion, all the artists, and especially our guests from Ukraine, will find respite and suitable working conditions in our Bolesławiec haven. Good luck.
The commissioner of the symposium was Janina Bany-Kozłowska, who created the renowned design of Bolesławiec ceramics for 45 years. In 1973, she graduated from the Department of Ceramic and Glass Form Design at the then State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wrocław. During her many years of work at the Ceramic Plants as a designer, she created more than 1,600 ceramic vessel forms and the plant’s logo.
