Every driver must reckon with the fact that violations of applicable regulations and behaviour posing a threat to other road users will be dealt with firmly by officers. During the August long weekend, police officers are conducting intensified checks to ensure the safety of all travellers who are travelling on the roads of our voivodeship during these days.
Officers are present on the main routes to ensure smooth traffic flow. They are paying particular attention to drivers’ sobriety and the way children are transported, as children must travel in devices intended for this purpose. The technical condition of vehicles travelling on Lower Silesian roads is also under special police supervision.
Drivers ignoring applicable regulations, especially those exceeding the speed limit, failing to wear seat belts and using mobile phones while driving, must expect a decisive response from officers. Police officers will firmly address every behaviour on the road that may create a danger for other road users.
However, all these actions taken by officers must go hand in hand with drivers’ common sense and caution if they are to produce the intended effect: increasing road safety and minimising the number of road incidents. The hard work of Lower Silesian police officers, who discipline “road pirates”, will not produce results if drivers themselves do not take care of their own safety and fail to prepare properly for their journey.
Before setting off, let us remember a few rules that will help us safely get through the hardships of the journey and bring our loved ones safely to their desired destination:
- let us check the technical condition of our car, its essential equipment (including a fire extinguisher and warning triangle), tyre pressure and fluid levels – if we have any doubts, we can always visit a vehicle inspection station,
- before setting off, let us plan the route and journey time – let us remember to take frequent breaks, which will help us maintain concentration even during a long journey,
- while driving, always use seat belts and devices for transporting children safely,
- let us check the weather forecast – weather conditions have a significant impact on our behaviour and that of our vehicle on the road,
- let us observe speed limits and adjust our speed to the prevailing weather and road conditions,
- when setting out, let us be rested and, above all, sober.
