Children speed on electric scooters through a crowded market at an illegal speed, paying no attention to whether they hit anyone. They ride onto the streets and travel across their entire width. And the photo sent by a reader shows that the kids are capable of even worse and “more interesting” violations of the rules.

This is not the first such stunt by young people. In December 2022, we wrote about two people on a scooter who went on a dangerous ride through the streets near the stadium and entered an intersection.

We remind you that only ONE PERSON may ride this type of vehicle. The fine for this violation is PLN 300. In the case of younger people, court proceedings are possible, as a result of which the penalty may be a fine of PLN 1,500.

An electric scooter is a vehicle, and its user is the driver. This entails both privileges and obligations.

It is very important that people riding e-scooters use the appropriate parts of the road. The driver of this vehicle is required to use a cycle path or cycle lane, if they are designated for the direction in which they are travelling or intend to turn. If there is no separate cycle path or cycle lane, they should ride on a roadway where vehicle traffic is permitted at a speed of no more than 30 km/h.

Using the pavement or a pedestrian path by an electric scooter rider is permitted only exceptionally. This applies only when—in accordance with the regulations—vehicles on the roadway are travelling at a speed greater than 30 km/h and there is no separate cycle path or cycle lane.

When riding an electric scooter on the pavement, one must travel at a speed close to that of a pedestrian, exercise particular caution, give way to pedestrians, and not impede their movement.

What are the fines for not following the rules?

  • Violation of regulations concerning the use of the pavement: PLN 200
  • Riding too fast on the pavement, failing to give way to pedestrians, or obstructing their movement: PLN 300
  • Failure to use a cycle path when one is designated: PLN 100
  • Violation by an electric scooter rider of the prohibition against riding without keeping at least one hand on the handlebars: PLN 50
  • Violation by an electric scooter rider of the prohibition against riding on the roadway alongside another road user: PLN 50
