This morning, Jerzy J. was brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, where he was charged with attempting to deprive someone of their life with direct intent and causing the victim serious bodily injuries.
At noon, a pre-trial detention hearing was held at the District Court in Bolesławiec. The court granted the request of investigators from Bolesławiec and remanded the suspect in temporary custody. The 60-year-old faces up to life imprisonment.
As a reminder, the incident occurred on 2 August in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki. The former husband of a 58-year-old resident of the town came to her home and shot her in the chest with a so-called black-powder firearm. (Possessing this type of weapon is legal; no permit is required.) The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
After shooting his former partner, the suspect left the scene but later returned. He was then arrested by the police. The weapon was secured.
Yesterday, investigators questioned the victim. She was feeling better—well enough for a doctor to permit a brief interview.
Importantly, the 60-year-old was subject to an active court order prohibiting him from approaching his ex-wife.
