Last Sunday, Legnica traffic police officers stopped the driver of an Audi who was travelling in a built-up area at a speed considerably exceeding the permitted limit there. Disregarding traffic regulations, the 23-year-old was driving at 144 km/h, which was 94 km/h more than the speed limit.
For the offence he committed, the police issued the man a PLN 2,500 fine and added 15 penalty points to his record. In addition, the officers confiscated the young driver’s licence.
The officers remind us that a built-up area is a special zone. It is characterised by heavier pedestrian and cyclist traffic.
Therefore, drivers should observe speed limits particularly carefully there. In a collision with a vehicle travelling at more than 100 km/h, an unprotected road user has no chance of survival. Let us remember that excessive speed is one of the main causes of road accidents.
