On Friday, 21 July, speed monitoring began on an 8-kilometre section of the A4 motorway, between the Kostomłoty and Kąty Wrocławskie interchanges. – We will provide the first statistics from the section speed monitoring after one month – Monika Niżniak, press spokesperson for the General Inspectorate of Road Transport, informed the service wroclaw.pl Monika Niżniak .
Let us recall. At the end of June, the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways reported that the installation of cameras on gantries over the A4 motorway was nearing completion, on the 8-kilometre section between the Kostomłoty and Kąty Wrocławskie interchanges.
As GDDKiA explained at the time:
The location was selected following a road traffic safety analysis conducted jointly by GDDKiA and GITD. This section of the motorway has no emergency lane, and the speed limit is 110 km/h. Between 2018 and 2022, nearly thirty accidents occurred here, injuring approximately fifty people. Given the scale and consequences of road incidents occurring on this section, it is necessary to place it under permanent speed control.
She also added:
The use of section speed monitoring, operated by CANARD (the Centre for Automatic Traffic Enforcement, an organisational unit of GITD), leads to a reduction in the number of incidents connected with exceeding the applicable speed limits. Thus, it significantly improves the level of safety for all road users.
