Our camera in the Market Square captured the group of boys about whom Bolesławiec residents had written on social media. The video shows their behavior during one of the demonstrations. They approached the group from behind, picked up the small stones lying by the trees in the Market Square and began throwing them at the people gathered there. Fortunately, no one was hit in the head.
The boy who led this group of hooligans is an 11-year-old child. Ania wrote about the boy on social media:
I know which little boy this is; it is hard to call him a little boy because he is a small bandit… left to run wild, he steals, beats people and torments animals. It is unbelievable that nobody can do anything about it. (…) this will end in tragedy.
Anna, in turn, added:
Unfortunately, I know these boys, and the police have already intervened, but nobody did anything. They terrorize the city. There is one child who is, let’s say, the boss (…) and nobody can do anything about it.
According to the information we gathered, the boy is completely neglected by his mother, who is addicted. The woman has had limited parental authority for 10 years. She has a probation officer; this was decided by the District Court in Opatów. Currently, in the case concerning her minor son, the District Court in Bolesławiec is conducting proceedings in which a non-final ruling has been issued. The minor is represented by a court-appointed attorney. The court did not provide more information because of the child’s sensitive data.
Informants say that the boy was once placed in foster care, and although his behavior may not have changed radically at that time, he was cared for and surrounded by support. Unfortunately, after some time the court returned the child to the care of his addicted mother. In practice, the child receives no care whatsoever and does whatever he wants. Probation supervision, as we have repeatedly written in other cases, is a fiction.
As a result of years of neglect by the adults responsible for him, the child has been devastated both physically and psychologically.
Is there hope for the boy? As long as the court keeps returning him to his addicted mother, who has turned her son into a cash machine paying out 500 zlotys every month, there is no hope for the child. Society will also pay the price, because even now adults are unable to cope with this child, and he displays highly destructive behavior.
Informants also add that no foster family wants to take in the boy with his health and behavioral problems.
