Fundraiser organizer:
Everything in our Dorota’s life proceeded as it does in most ordinary Polish families. A loving mother of two, a wife, always smiling and enjoying life. A young woman devoted to her family. Nothing indicated that a moment would come when we would be writing a description of this fundraiser, and life would lose its meaning for her because of the debilitating pain.
June 2021—we can consider it the beginning of these unfortunate events. The tragic and sudden death of her beloved father. The beginnings of symptoms related to disturbances in heart function. In the autumn of that same year, she experienced her first tetany attack while driving a car. Diagnostics. A search that continued. Doctors denying her symptoms. In the meantime, she contracted COVID. Complications—a blood clot in her leg. As a result of severe thrombosis, the muscle from her ankle to her knee was damaged—the diagnosis was rhabdomyolysis. To be able to move at all, Dorota is forced to use crutches. Further attacks followed, including loss of consciousness, photophobia, extreme sensitivity to light and headaches. Another diagnosis was an inoperable brain tumor called a capillary hemangioma.
And she adds:
Time passed, and Dorota’s life continued in daily suffering. Crutches became the only way for her to take a few steps in everyday life. Living in Świętoszów in a block of flats on the fourth floor, getting downstairs independently became a struggle. Frankly speaking, we cannot count the number of specialists and tests she had to undergo, or the costs she had to cover privately, in order to hear the correct diagnosis after many months of struggle.
And she adds:
From November 2021 until now—April 2023—the diagnoses have been ankylosing spondylitis, tetany and neuroborreliosis. Ankylosing spondylitis, also known as Bechterew’s disease, is an inflammatory condition that can spread from the spine to every joint in the body. In Dorota’s case, the disease is progressing very aggressively and rapidly, due to the additional course of neuroborreliosis and tetany. The doctor said it plainly: “a severe case.” The aim of the fundraiser is to help Dorota raise funds for biological treatment and long-term rehabilitation, because her body has not responded to any antibiotic therapies or steroids. Enormous physical pain, incessant trembling of her entire body, daily fever caused by inflammation, and the need for help with the most ordinary activities, such as opening a bottle of water, getting dressed or walking from the bedroom to the kitchen, are taking Dorota’s smile and her life away. Every day the pain grows, and the disease attacks more joints, progressing in the blink of an eye.
And she appeals: – Let’s help Dorota live without pain, so that she can calmly watch her children grow up and keep up with them.
