At the August session of the City Council, controversy was sparked by the issue of the restaurant that will operate at the International Ceramics Center. The opposition demanded that the restaurant be operated and equipped by a private entrepreneur rather than by the management of the municipal cultural center.

The mayor reviewed the legal situation regarding the possibility of managing the restaurant and found no obstacles to leasing it. The rental income will have to be allocated to a fund ensuring the proper maintenance of the property for a period of 10 years after the facility is put into use. The annual contributions to this fund may not be lower than 0.5% of the total project value (€3.8 million), or approximately PLN 77,000 per year.

Following the City Office’s receipt of an unequivocal legal interpretation, Mayor Piotr Roman decided to lease the restaurant at BOK-MCC, which will take place after the tender is announced and decided.

Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska (director of BOK-MCC), who learned of the mayor’s decision today, will prepare the tender specifications after August 22. “I will be looking for a partner who will help me take care of this exceptionally valuable and beautiful facility,” says Lijewska-Małachowska. “There is one entrance to the center and the restaurant, and restaurant guests will use the toilets in the lobby. Above all, I must take care of the security of the property entrusted to me. I personally believe that someone will be found who will cooperate with us and feel jointly responsible for the international cultural center in our city,” the director adds.
