Officers from the police station in Nowogrodziec, working together with criminal investigators from the Bolesławiec police, identified and arrested suspects in a vehicle burglary case. – The perpetrators took advantage of the time when the camper van’s owner went to the river and then stole the vehicle by towing it away – reports junior warrant officer Tomasz Nowak from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
He adds: – The resident of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship was astonished to discover that his vehicle, together with all its equipment, had disappeared. The traveller estimated the total value of the losses at more than PLN 50,000.
Intensive police operations led to the arrest of three residents of Osiecznica Commune suspected of committing the offence. Further actions resulted in the arrest of two people who helped dispose of items originating from the theft.
The officers:
A resident of Zgorzelec County who bought the vehicle and the vast majority of the items from the thieves had already managed to hide them. The camper van was concealed in a forest, while the receiver removed its battery and wheels so that no one would steal it from him. He buried all the vehicle’s equipment, including diving gear, in several places on his property.
They add:
The police recovered most of the lost property. While travelling, the camper van had served as the victim’s home, so he was very happy to have his belongings returned.
And they explain further:
The suspects in the burglary are residents of Osiecznica Commune aged between 27 and 31. They confessed to the acts with which they are charged and may face up to 10 years in prison. The two other men will answer for handling stolen goods, an offence carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison. However, the resident of Zgorzelec County may face up to seven years and six months behind bars for acquiring property originating from a crime, as he had previously served a sentence for a similar offence.
