On Monday, May 29, a conference was held in Bolesławiec, where officials announced that the long-awaited new bridge over the Bóbr would be built in two years. The city and county authorities, as well as the director of GDDKiA from Wrocław, attended the conference.
GDDKiA Wrocław Branch Director Lidia Markowska:
We intend to announce the tender later this year. In two years, I hope this new crossing will be here. The project involves reconstructing the transport system along approximately 600 metres, as well as building new roads and turbo roundabouts on both sides of the Bóbr.
First, a new crossing parallel to the existing bridge will be built on the northern side. Once it has been built, traffic will be diverted from the old bridge to the new one. The old bridge will then be demolished and a new one will be built in its place. Between the new roundabouts, there will be two carriageways, each with two lanes in each direction.
The investment will cost more than PLN 60 million.
Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman:
There is enormous interest among residents, especially those who have to cross to the other side of the river every day. This is particularly true of those coming from the west, including residents of Osiedle Kwiatowe, Osiedle Przylesie, Dobra and Osiecznica. Please remember that around 40,000 people enter Bolesławiec every day. They come to work, school and shop. This bridge is already very old and worn out, creating enormous problems.
(...) The idea for this crossing is very ambitious. It is not merely about replacing one bridge with another. We are talking about a completely new structure and two large roundabouts. This concerns both safety and traffic flow, particularly when something happens on the A4 motorway.
