The municipal pond in Bolesławiec and its surroundings are home to several bird species. A pair of swans, mallard ducks and pigeons live here. Rooks and jackdaws can also be seen around the pond. It is a beautiful place in the city centre, where one can relax and go for a walk.
Unfortunately, despite requests and appeals not to feed birds bread, people continue to do so. Worse still, they sometimes throw in such quantities of bread and bread rolls that they remain floating on the water for several days. Crisps and biscuits are also thrown into the pond... We recently reported that feeding birds bread can even result in their death, as we reported recently:
The female swan was fatally poisoned by bread.
Meanwhile, in Bolesławiec:
Therefore, once again we appeal, remind and ask people not to feed birds bread, or any crisps, pretzel sticks, chips or biscuits. This food is unhealthy for them and causes various digestive-system diseases, as well as so-called angel wing, which prevents affected birds from flying. In extreme cases, feeding birds bread can also cause a bird's death.
If, while in the vicinity of the municipal pond in Bolesławiec, we want to give the birds something healthy to eat, it is best to use the duck food dispenser located by the pond. The natural food of ducks and swans includes plants, including aquatic plants, insect larvae, snails, as well as seeds and cereal grains (including, for example, oat flakes and bran—provided they are natural and contain no additives).
