Marek Raduli, best known to many as the guitarist of Budka Suflera, as well as a composer and arranger, came to the Jubilee Blues nad Bobrem Festival for several days. In addition to giving lectures, he also performed a concert with his band Pi-Er-2 (Wojciech Pilichowski – bass, Tomasz Łosowski – drums).
The artist has been a lecturer at the BnB workshops for 10 years. He values the Festival and is pleased that it has found such a worthy setting in the interiors of Kliczków Castle.
– At the Blues nad Bobrem workshops, I am both creator and material, Raduli says. – I teach young people how to play, while at the same time sharing myself with them and learning from the lecturers who come here. That is precisely the idea behind these workshops. We are dealing here with people who share their knowledge, but also exchange experiences, talk about what they have achieved and demonstrate new skills. The lecturers themselves are an elite group capable of conveying their knowledge, passion and pure joy that comes from playing.
On the second day of the workshops, Raduli performed a concert with his band during the jam session, presenting his latest album, “Time52”. It was a very good rock-jazz concert. Many workshop participants could not recover after such a portion of excellent music and instrumental virtuosity. The performance of the song “Minaret voice”, which promoted “Time52” on the Internet, deserved particular attention.
– Playing for workshop participants and lecturers is not the same as playing before another audience, Marek Raduli says about his concert at the Castle. – The bar cannot be set any higher. Usually, when you play a concert, it is listened to by both a box of flatterers and a box of mockers. Here there are only mockers, he says with a laugh and explains. – People who know what they are doing create themselves and can find the slightest mistake. The fact that we drew them into having fun together is something exceptional.
The song “Minaret voice” was created during one of Marek Raduli’s numerous journeys, although he actually does not like travelling around the world. – I’m no Tony Halik, the guitarist says. – I do not like travelling, yet I play with bands and companies that are constantly going somewhere. That is how I ended up in Egypt, even though I hate sand and the desert. I sailed across the ocean, although I suffer from seasickness. I visited mountain resorts, although, being a highlander, I cannot stand mountains.
When asked whether he had written the song because he had succumbed to the fashion for the East, Raduli replied that he was not entirely trendy (fashionable). – We do not play commercially in “Pi-eR-2”; we do not have to, he said. – The “Time 52” album was released in around two thousand copies; we sold them all and do not intend to reissue it. I am pleased that fans are able to pay more than two hundred zlotys for our album on Allegro. I can say that we play our own music (music invented by us) entirely for the pure pleasure of playing together and being there for the audience. We moved towards simplicity, communication and rhythm. Although for connoisseurs looking for something deeper, there will also be some delights in the background.
On Tuesday, 10 August, at 8:00 p.m., the organizers of the Blues nad Bobrem Festival invite you to another concert as part of the jam session. Leszek Cichoński will perform with his band. Admission is free.
