The Bolesławiec bridge on Zgorzelecka Street is the only crossing of the Bóbr River for national road no. 94—the alternative to motorway no. 4. Its renovation is a priority. Preparations must be made for the prospect of several thousand vehicles returning to the route each day if tolls are introduced on the A4.
The bridge on Zgorzelecka Street has been maintained for the past 10 years by the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. It has also undergone two renovations, in 2000 and 2005. These included strengthening the bridge deck slab, replacing the insulation and road surface, repairing damage to the structural concrete, and applying anti-corrosion protection.
According to Mayor Piotr Roman, all these renovations have been insufficient, and the bridge itself is close to technical failure. The mayor fears that GDDKiA's failure to promptly carry out specific repairs will result in the bridge being closed to traffic and the two parts of the city being cut off from each other.
In a letter to the mayor, Agnieszka Krupa, deputy director of the Department of Roads and Motorways, wrote that the bridge is not in an emergency condition requiring immediate action. GDDKiA must give priority to tasks involving structures in the worst technical condition. Agnieszka Krupa also promised that the bridge in Bolesławiec would be renovated soon after 2012. We will return to this matter.
