The incident occurred on March 28, at approximately 12:30 p.m. – Officers from the Second Police Station in Jelenia Góra went to a report that a man had threatened to commit suicide – reports Sub-Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra.
She adds:
The 64-year-old’s partner asked the officers for help. She informed them that the man had called her and threatened to take his own life by throwing himself under a train.
The officers set out to search for the desperate man. When they arrived at the railway tracks on Lubańska Street in Jelenia Góra, the barriers were down. They noticed that a train was leaving the station and beginning to accelerate. On the opposite side, they saw a man matching the description and immediately moved toward him, signaling to the driver to stop the train.
The spokeswoman said: – Seeing the approaching train, the man stepped onto the tracks, and the police officers pulled him away.
It turned out that the man standing on the tracks was indeed a 64-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra. He stated that he had intended to take his own life. Sub-Inspector E. Bagrowska:
Thanks to quickly locating him, the police officers managed to prevent him from carrying out the desperate act. The man clearly smelled of alcohol. A test showed 3.2 per mille.
She adds:
Because of the real threat to his life and health, the police officers detained the man in police custody. After sobering up, the 64-year-old will be placed under the care of specialist doctors.
