A letter has arrived at our editorial office in which readers call for the renovation of Waryński Park, a place where many residents of Bolesławiec go to relax. They complain about damaged equipment in the children’s playground, deteriorating amphitheatre seating and the lack of toilets. In their letter, they write:

“In the city, especially in the centre, pavements and roads are being renovated, and that is very good. However, Waryński Park has been forgotten by the authorities of Bolesławiec. It is perhaps the only park in Bolesławiec that is so neglected. There is no suitable equipment for children to play on; the swings are old and constantly break down. The sand in the sandbox is not replaced, even once a year. Sometimes children play in soil instead of sand. There are too few benches. In addition, there are no toilets (Toi-Toi) in the park, so children have to relieve themselves on the grass. The amphitheatre is also in a deplorable condition; the benches are old and partly broken. In our opinion, many events could be held here instead of at MOSiR on Spacerowa Street.[…] Why do the city authorities not remember the city park and modernise it? This is a place visited by many mothers and grandparents with small children, children from nearby kindergartens, and older people. We ask your newspaper to publicise this matter and make the authorities (the Mayor) remember that this is also part of the city and that Bolesławiec residents live here. This park is their favourite place to spend time and relax.”

Waryński Park serves residents as a place for relaxation and as a children’s playground. City festivals are often held here. In the editorial office’s opinion, the condition of the park is not bad. The paths are well maintained and the grass is trimmed. Some of the benches have been replaced with new ones. The playground does not have many pieces of equipment, but they are in working order and serve the children well. The sand in the sandbox is fresh and plentiful. The amphitheatre benches look the worst. The wooden seats are broken, nails protrude from them, and the old paint is peeling, making them look very unattractive.

The head of the Municipal Services Department, Grażyna Strzyżewska, informed us that the park’s facilities (benches and rubbish bins) and the playground equipment are repaired on an ongoing basis. “We remember the city park and try to carry out all necessary repairs on an ongoing basis. I know that the amphitheatre benches need to be replaced. We are planning to rebuild the seating in 2011. This task is included in the Long-Term Investment Programme for 2010–2014. I also hope to obtain EU funds for the modernisation of Waryński Park,” says Strzyżewska. The department head assures us that Waryński Park has not been forgotten, and that improving its condition and appearance is one of the tasks of the Municipal Services Department.
