Magazine Simulation & Gaming published an article describing the impact of computer games on the professional development of engineers, managers and IT workers.

To begin with, it should be noted that game types and genres have little influence on development, or this area still requires appropriate research. Nevertheless, scientists have already managed to establish certain details.

Researchers from the University of Surrey, with the support of specialists from Game Academy LTD, studied 16,000 Steam users and analyzed more than 800 computer games. It should be remembered that only users who had filled in the relevant information in their profiles, including details about their specialization, took part in the study.

According to the study, it became clear that engineers and IT specialists prefer puzzle games and popular strategy games, which allow them to plan and calculate their actions several moves ahead.

Players who, in real life, are responsible for organizing a team or hold managerial positions, on the other hand, prefer role-playing games. This most likely results from the possibility of fully controlling one's life in a fictional world and creating a character the player wants to see.
Clear differences between the sexes emerged. For example, women prefer single-player games, while most men often favor multiplayer shooters.

Men also tend to make in-game purchases more often than women. Many male users regularly look for free bonuses, more about which can be found on the website Bonus-bez-doepozytu.pl. Thanks to bonuses, players can gain a significant advantage over their opponents in some games.

The study's lead author, Dr Anesa Hosein, argues that HR specialists must consider not only candidates' professional skills but also their interests in particular positions, including their passion for computer games. As it turned out, what a person plays in their free time can reveal a great deal about them.

By understanding where computer games and professional skills intersect, a competent HR manager can find hard-working employees who will perform excellently in a new position.

Furthermore, scientists believe that schools and universities should also offer extracurricular classes introducing students to various video games in order to develop their attention, reaction speed and other useful skills.
