Officers:

Let the situation described serve as a warning to people whose behavior harms their loved ones.

They add:

We appeal to people affected by violence to overcome their fear and contact a community police officer or another support institution. Domestic violence most often takes place behind closed doors, and both the perpetrator and the victim want no one to find out what is happening in their home.

Unfortunately, keeping violence secret will not make the abuser change his behavior or make the family’s life more peaceful. Both the Police and other institutions, such as the Social Welfare Centre, need to receive a signal or information that violence is occurring in order to initiate support procedures—regardless of whether it comes from the victims, their family or even neighbors.

They also add:

Once the Police receive information that a perpetrator is using domestic violence, their actions are primarily aimed at isolating the abuser as quickly as possible from the people he is abusing. Providing care, ensuring peace and offering assistance to victims is the priority in every situation involving violence.
