PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. has signed three agreements with the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for projects under the Kolej Plus Government Programme for the Development of Local and Regional Railway Infrastructure until 2029. The estimated value of the three investments is approximately PLN 800 million.
PKP PLK company:
The agreements signed by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship authorities will enable tenders to be announced for preparing documentation defining the detailed scope of work for the reconstruction of Środa Śląska and Wrocław Świebodzki stations, as well as the revitalisation of the Zgorzelec–Bogatynia and Legnica–Złotoryja–Jerzmanice-Zdrój routes. The investments, which will improve rail accessibility, will cover approximately 60 km of railway lines in total. The estimated value of the work is approximately PLN 800 million.
Railway services will return to Bogatynia
After almost 30 years, residents will gain convenient rail connections. The single-track route between Bogatynia and Zgorzelec, along a section of approximately 30 km, will be adapted for trains travelling at speeds of up to 120 km/h. The journey from Bogatynia to Zgorzelec is estimated to take approximately 47 minutes, and to Wrocław approximately 2 hours 37 minutes. Passengers, including people with reduced mobility, will be able to board trains conveniently at eight locations: Zgorzelec, Jerzmanki, Sulików, Krzewina Zgorzelecka, Bratków Zgorzelecki, Turoszów, Turoszów Kopalnia and Bogatynia. The investment is estimated to be worth approximately PLN 322 million.
Passengers will travel by train to Złotoryja
The route, currently used exclusively for freight traffic, will be adapted for passenger services again after approximately 20 years. The revitalised railway line no. 284 Legnica–Złotoryja–Jerzmanice-Zdrój will enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
To ensure smooth journeys along more than 24 km of the route, the track will be replaced and the overhead line modernised. It is estimated that trains from Złotoryja will reach Wrocław in 1 hour 10 minutes. Passengers will gain a new stop—Legnica Zachodnia. Rebuilt stations in Złotoryja and Jerzmanice-Zdrój will ensure good service. The work is estimated to cost approximately PLN 263 million.
More efficient connections in the Wrocław metropolitan area
The reconstruction of Wrocław Świebodzki station and the construction of a second track towards Wrocław Muchobór station will make it possible to launch new connections between the regional capital and Środa Śląska, Wołów and Jaworzyna Śląska.
In addition to reconstructing Wrocław Świebodzki station, the Środa Śląska signal box is planned to be rebuilt as a railway station, enabling trains to begin and end their routes there. As a result, the introduction of new services between Wrocław and Środa Śląska will make it possible to reduce the journey time from Wrocław to Legnica to approximately 40 minutes for a greater number of trains. The planned investment is valued at approximately PLN 216 million.
