The incident took place on Saturday, 11 March. Firefighters from Nowogrodziec:
(…) at 5:40 p.m. we set off urgently with two units to a chimney fire in Gierałtów.
And they report: – At the scene, the report was confirmed and extinguishing powder was applied from a fire extinguisher. The chimney temperature was over 180°C, creating a high risk of the chimney cracking or wooden ceiling or roof elements catching fire. Combustible material was removed from the area around the flue using a chainsaw. Water was applied using a chimney lance.
They also add:
Due to the high temperature, the building was monitored and supervised using a thermal imaging camera; operations lasted as long as 7 hours.
Firefighters from Nowogrodziec, Gierałtów and Bolesławiec took part in the operation. Fortunately, no one was injured.
