– Lwówek Agate Summer has a record number of stalls this year – says Michał Mruk, the event’s press office manager. – There are as many as 175. And the waiting list is almost as long. Every year, we increase the number of stalls selling minerals and jewellery. We are becoming increasingly popular. Registration for the next celebration begins immediately after the event ends.

On Friday at 4:00 p.m., the mineral fair was officially opened. After 8:00 p.m., a procession set off, beginning the entertainment programme of the Lwówek celebration. As every year, motorcyclists, partner cities and sponsors took part in the parade. The group from Bolesławiec was particularly popular (a BOK-MCC performance). The Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival was advertised and visitors were invited to attend. The procession included members of the Boleslawiec Song and Dance Ensemble, the Bolesławiec Municipal Brass Band and representatives of Forum cinema (3D screenings were advertised).

During the three-day celebration, the keys to the city are handed over to the Walloons – specialists in extracting and processing natural resources, particularly in the exploitation of silver and gold and precious stones.

– Agate Summer has a thematic programme – says Mruk. – Scientists conduct workshops, and there are demonstrations of cutting and polishing agates. Two excellent exhibitions have been prepared at the town hall: “History from the Depths of the Earth,” a geological exhibition presenting numerous fossils from almost around the world, and the true gem of this year’s Agate Summer, “Agates from Płóczki Górne.” The collection from this famous site consists of the finest known specimens, from both Polish and foreign collections.

This year, stars of popular music were invited to the 13th Lwówek Agate Summer: the band Myslowitz performed on Friday, Kasia Kowalska will sing on Saturday, and the band Hey on Sunday.
