Taekwondo athletes from Bolesławiec’s UKS Ilyo are keeping busy. In just a few days, a sizeable group of juniors and younger juniors will travel to Borne Sulinowo for the first training camp, combined with preparations by the national team for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore.

On 25 July, Krzysztof Jasiński, our two-time gold medallist at this year’s Polish Championships, will fly with the Polish national team to Seoul—the cradle of world taekwondo—for a two-week training camp. Krzysztof is preparing for the European Youth Championships, which will be held in Kharkiv, Ukraine, from 9 to 12 October.

Both Krzysztof and the other UKS Ilyo athletes from the provincial team will end their summer holidays with a two-week training camp in Bęsia in Masuria, beginning on 15 August.

“The past six months brought four medals at the 2010 Polish Championships. Compared with last year, when athletes from Bolesławiec won six medals, this is unfortunately a decline,” says Mariusz Sulma, head of UKS Ilyo. “The 2010/2011 season, however, looks much more promising. That’s sport. A new sports act comes into force on 1 September, placing emphasis on Olympic disciplines, including taekwondo. This does not change the fact that hard work will still be what matters most.
