Nearly 230 taekwondo athletes from 14 Czech and Polish clubs competed against one another in all age categories in the kyorugi discipline, meaning sport fighting. – The athletes from Chojnów took part in their first practice bouts after the summer break and returned home with four podium finishes – says Yevgen Nikitin, instructor at LMKS Sfora Chojnów. – The competition was held using DaeDo’s EBP electronic scoring system, with which, unfortunately, our athletes come into contact practically only at competitions, because purchasing electronic protectors is beyond our club’s financial means.
After winning her semifinal (7–4), Sfora representative Julia Domańska lost to a competitor from the host club and finished second in the children’s 2008–2009, –39 kg category.
Franciszek Olszewski (children’s 2008–2009, –40 kg category) won his semifinal 8–2. In the final, however, he lost by one kick (11–13) to a representative of Polish UKS Dragon.
Karol Struski (children’s 2008–2009, –27 kg category) had to acknowledge the superiority of a competitor from the host club in the quarterfinal and finished third. The same happened to Ksawery Olchowy (cadet 2006–2007, –36 kg category). Once again, one scoring hit tipped the balance in favor of Ksawery’s opponent (7–9).
Kacper Holewski (senior 2000+, –80 kg), for whom this was his first competition, finished ninth but gained a great deal of experience.
– Congratulations for every point scored. We learn from our losses and keep fighting—stronger than ever. Thanks to the parents who supported their children during training and on the trip. Many thanks to Mariusz Sulma from LMKS Gladius Bolesławiec for looking after our athletes during the competition and for his good advice while coaching from the corner – the Sfora instructor enumerates.
He adds:
I invite you to follow our club’s athletes’ progress and keep your fingers crossed for them, because on October 14, 2017, the Inter-Voivodeship Cadet Championships in Olympic Taekwondo will be held in Chróścina near Opole. The event is included in the calendar of the Polish Olympic Taekwondo Association; it is a competition for athletes born in 2006–2007 in sparring, poomsae and technical two-event disciplines. Chojnów will be represented by a four-person team that is already raring to go.
Children, young people and adults prepare for competition during Taekwondo Chojnów training sessions, held in the gymnasium of Gimnazjum nr 1 in Chojnów every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Y. Nikitin: – The operation of LMKS Sfora Chojnów is possible thanks to the commitment and work of its members and athletes, as well as financial support from the local government, sponsors, social projects and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. It is also possible thanks to the school administration making a training hall available to us, for which I would like to thank them very much, on my own behalf and that of the club’s members.
