Two New Left MPs visited Bolesławiec: Małgorzata Sekuła-Szmajdzińska and Anita Kucharska-Dziedzic. At the town market on Jeleniogórska Street, the parliamentarians promoted the civic bill on the “Widows’ Pension” and collected signatures in support of the bill.
– This is the most important issue for us; this is what we want to focus on now. And we hope that we will manage to implement it. I am referring, of course, to the widows’ pension – M. Sekuła-Szmajdzińska said.
What is a widows’ pension?
As left-wing activists emphasize, this would provide support for as many as 1.5 million people: spouses who were left alone after the death of their partner. (In most cases, however, this concerns women.) Details are available on the Left website.
Anita Kucharska-Dziedzic:
The widows’ pension is our proposal, but we want it to be a civic initiative, not merely a bill proposed by the Left parliamentary group. Why? Under the current circumstances governing the Sejm, only civic bills must be put on the agenda—those supported by at least 100,000 signatures from citizens. Bills submitted by MPs, especially those from the opposition, do not make it onto the agenda. I know this perfectly well—from personal experience.
– This civic bill has a chance to be considered and to end with a happy ending – Małgorzata Sekuła-Szmajdzińska emphasizes. A. Kucharska-Dziedzic adds:
This is a good solution not only for Left voters; it is simply a good solution for all citizens.
