A meeting of members of the “Carpe Diem” Teachers’ Club was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the 90th birthday of Eugenia Wolska, longtime chairwoman of the Bolesławiec Senior Citizens’ Council, founder and president of the Teachers’ Club and the “Carpe Diem” Association, honored with the “Distinguished Cultural Activist” badge, the title of Distinguished Citizen of the City of Bolesławiec, and the Bolesławiec Mayor’s Award in the fields of culture and social affairs.

The meeting was also attended by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, BOK-MCC Director Kornel Filipowicz and Beata Sulska, head of the Social Affairs Department.

– On the occasion of your 90th birthday, please accept my warmest wishes for good health, satisfaction with your pedagogical achievements and your recognized role as a community activist and promoter of culture. Today’s anniversary is a special opportunity to express respect and appreciation for your work in all these fields. You are an exceptionally active person, deeply committed to the life of our city – said Mayor Piotr Roman, wishing her both good health and boundless energy and satisfaction in life.

The meeting was also an opportunity to recall many of the jubilarian’s valuable initiatives and achievements. Her work on the Bolesławiec Senior Citizens’ Council aimed to improve the daily lives of retired people, build bonds between younger and older generations, and combat exclusion due to old age, illness and poverty.

Among her many achievements, it is worth recalling the “Capture in Time” literary competition for children and young people; the improvement of hospital procedures facilitating treatment for older people; the creation of a senior citizens’ map listing institutions working with older people; the European Senior Citizens’ Day program in October; intergenerational computer workshops under the slogan “Senior with a Junior in Front of the Monitor”; cooperation with the Senate of the Republic of Poland’s Parliamentary Group for Older People and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights. The proposals of the Senior Citizens’ Council were used in nationwide projects for seniors.

In a competition organized by the Senate of the Republic of Poland in 2012, the City of Bolesławiec received first distinction in the “Local Government Friendly to Older People’s Education and Intergenerational Integration” category. The calendar of events of the Carpe Diem club includes, alongside sightseeing trips, meetings with interesting people, lectures and social campaigns, the “Bread Mystery”—an extraordinary gathering of club members and friendly communities.
