On 3 January 2023, at around 9 a.m., officers from the Jelenia Góra traffic police went to one of the localities in Karkonosze County, where a report stated that a vehicle had ended up in a ditch. When the officers arrived at the scene, they noticed an Opel off the public road, in a ditch. A man was sleeping next to the car.
As it later turned out, he was the vehicle's 47-year-old driver. He had been travelling with his dog. The dog guarded the man and the car. The police officers woke the man and immediately detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. The test carried out showed nearly 3.5 per mille. The man did not have a driving licence and admitted that he was taking a driving course.
The police are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail. The resident of Karkonosze County was taken to police custody to sober up and for further procedures. The following day, at the Police Station in Kowary, he was charged in connection with the case.
He will now answer before the court for the offence committed and may face up to two years in prison, a substantial fine and a driving ban lasting several years. The officers seized the car driven by the man as security against a future fine.
