Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn seized nearly 4,000 cigarettes without Polish excise-duty markings in a house in a rural area of Bolesławiec Municipality.
The police findings indicate that the 67-year-old woman bought tobacco from an illegal source. She then made nearly 4,000 cigarettes, packed them in cartons from other tobacco products and hid them in various places throughout her home. The resident of Bolesławiec County claims that she prepared all the cigarettes for herself.
The total value of the seized illegal cigarettes resulted in an excise-tax shortfall of nearly PLN 4,000.
Police are currently investigating where the seized property came from. Under the provisions of the Fiscal Penal Code, the woman may face up to 3 years in prison, as well as severe financial penalties.
