As reported by the “Z Szarym Za Płotem” Association:
On 22 November, a dead wolf in a very advanced state of decomposition was found in the Węgliniec Forest District.
We probably would never have found out about it if it had not been for animals that dug up the remains.
The organisation adds:
The dug-up pit, remnants of fur and fragments of a plastic bag indicate poaching.
This fact was reported to RDOŚ Wrocław and the police.
That was all that could be done given the animal’s state of decomposition—nothing more....
It also adds:
After this incident, only one question comes to mind:
What is the true scale of poaching in Poland?
How often are such incidents detected? We recommend the following studies, which demonstrate, among other things, that in the United States, where legal culling is possible, poaching does not decrease at the same time: https://academic.oup.com/jmammal/article/98/1/17/2977342.
