On Friday, June 18, workshops were held at the Stanisław Wyspiański Youth Cultural Centre in Bolesławiec, led by a group of artists and educators from the Korean Cultural Centre operating at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Warsaw.

Everyone gathered in the MDK auditorium had the opportunity to see a multimedia presentation devoted to Korean culture and technology, as well as a calligraphy demonstration (that day, masters of the art wrote Polish names in the Korean alphabet on traditional hanji paper). Participants could also take part in art and cooking classes and have their picture taken in traditional Korean clothing.

“I am pleased that these workshops took place,” says Marek Łętowski, head of MDK. “This is a very important event for us. This institution works to develop young people’s interests and talents. We do not want to confine ourselves to any one formula. We offer contact with culture in the broadest sense. Korean technology is ubiquitous in our country, but we know very little about Korean culture. That is why we took the opportunity to bring it closer to the residents of our county.”

“I have visited many European countries. Poles have a very rich culture,” emphasizes Soo Myeong Lee, director of the Korean Cultural Centre. “In our country, people say that to learn what someone is like, it is enough to look them in the eyes. And it holds true. Poles are very kind.”
