During a routine inspection on the A4 motorway in Jędrzychowice, KAS detected the illegal import of used clothing waste from Germany to Poland. Officers: – The nearly 13-tonne shipment imported for a Polish company contained damaged footwear, used underwear and clothing.
They add:
The recipient did not have a permit to process the waste and was unable to recover or dispose of the clothing in compliance with the regulations.
As officers of the Customs and Fiscal Service from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław established, the company in question trades in used clothing, while the goods it was supposed to receive were unsorted and unsuitable for sale. The Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection deemed the transport illegal.
The carrier now faces a fine of PLN 13,000, while the recipient of the goods may be fined up to PLN 500,000. The trailer and its cargo were seized for criminal proceedings.
