An important historic building in Bolesławiec, the Youth Cultural Center, will undergo a major renovation. The works and the future of the MDK were discussed at a press conference by starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak and the institution’s director, Dariusz Uściński.

Interestingly, well-preserved newspapers are being found in the plaster. They date from earlier renovations. One of them, from before the war, has already been transferred to the History of the City Department of the Museum of Ceramics.

– The detailed scope of the work at the MDK will include, among other things, vertical insulation of the building and a general renovation of the cellars, including the restoration of the prison cells – says Dariusz Uściński. – The renovation will also include replacing the electrical installation throughout the building, applying plaster, painting the walls, replacing the lighting, and replacing and restoring damaged wooden elements such as floors, ceiling beams and brackets – the director adds.

After the renovation, visitors will be able to see a memorial room in the former prison cells of the PRL Security Office, located in the building’s cellar. The money for the renovation comes from the Polish Deal, as the starosta announced.

- The renovation is not a threat to the district’s budget – said Tomasz Gabrysiak. – We want the renovation to last for many years to come – the starosta added.

All classes are held at the Old Theatre. Two studios are using the hospitality of the Mechanical School Complex and the Electronic School Complex. The renovation is initially expected to last until spring 2023.
