The opening ceremony for the operating theatre and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care took place on Tuesday, 27 September. The ceremony was hosted by Kamil Barczyk, director of St Luke’s Hospital. Among others, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman and Bolesławiec County Head Tomasz Gabrysiak also spoke. They thanked Kamil Barczyk for what he has done and continues to do at the hospital in Bolesławiec.
The changes are enormous. This was particularly evident in the presentation watched by the ceremony’s guests. It included a film showing what the hospital on Jeleniogórska Street used to look like. Now it is changing beyond recognition. The hospital has never before been renovated and expanded on such a scale and at such a pace. Modern equipment is arriving... And this is not the end yet. Further investments will soon be completed...
Councillor Karol Stasik also made no secret of his admiration for Director Kamil Barczyk’s work. As he said, he had previously been a sceptic, and to mark the opening of the new operating theatre at the hospital he shaved his beard (as he stressed, he does this only on exceptional occasions). Congratulations were also offered by someone who had worked in healthcare and at the Bolesławiec hospital for 55 years. Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk was moved as she thanked Director Kamil Barczyk for what he had done and continues to do.
The ceremony marking the completion of the hospital’s investments was attended by the authorities of the town and Bolesławiec County, councillors, heads of the municipalities in Bolesławiec County, county police and fire service commanders, the head of Zgorzelec County, Zofia Barczyk, director of the Zgorzelec hospital, medical staff and the media.
To commemorate the major changes and investments at St Luke’s Hospital in Bolesławiec, the Mayor of Bolesławiec, the county head and the mayors of the municipalities pressed their hands into specially prepared tiles. They also signed the tiles. The tiles will now be fired.
St Luke’s Hospital in Bolesławiec about the event:
(...) On 27 September 2022, the official opening of the new Operating Theatre and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care took place at St Luke’s Hospital in Bolesławiec. The total cost of the investment was nearly PLN 11 million, most of which was subsidised by:
- the Ministry of Health,
- Bolesławiec County,
- the Municipality of Bolesławiec,
- Bolesławiec Municipality,
- Osiecznica Municipality,
- Warta Bolesławiecka Municipality,
- Gromadka Municipality.
It adds:
Thanks to the modernisation, the number of operating rooms in the operating theatre was increased to three, while the number of beds in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care was increased from 7 to 9. The new theatre also has a three-station recovery room and a room for preparing patients for surgery. The new rooms meet strict requirements and the highest standards. The operating theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Among other things, it has a new 4K laparoscope with ICG imaging, one of the first devices of its class in Poland and the first in Lower Silesia, as well as the Navio robot, the most innovative and revolutionary medical equipment for knee arthroplasty in Poland.
In addition to the most modern anaesthesia and intensive care equipment, the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care has one of the two ECMO machines in Lower Silesia, which saves the lives of patients with acute lung or heart failure.
All the project’s main objectives have been achieved. After more than a year of work, patients can now use the facilities of the new Operating Theatre and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, which are undoubtedly currently among the most modern departments in Lower Silesia. Thanks to the investment, a new chapter is opening at the county hospital after many years. St Luke’s Hospital is now entering an era of modern treatment and the highest-quality standards, which will serve the residents of Bolesławiec County and Lower Silesia for many years.
The facility concludes: – Considering the increase in the number of surgical procedures and hospitalisations in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care in previous years, as well as residents’ healthcare needs, it must be stated that there is undoubtedly a need for further development and expansion of the hospital in Bolesławiec.
Let us recall. We reported on the matter last week. Tomasz Gabrysiak, head of the county authorities, recalled during the September meeting of the Bolesławiec County Council that the investment had cost nearly PLN 11 million. The amount consisted of grants from the Ministry of Health, local authorities (all municipal and county authorities), as well as St Luke’s Hospital in Bolesławiec’s own funds.
The county head added:
I did not believe it could look this good.
And he noted:
I know that the operating theatre may be the last place with which we would want to have personal contact. But on the other hand, if we want to save the lives of residents of our county, it is the heart of the hospital.
