Angelika Haniszewska and Marek Wojnowicz from UKS “Tukan” Iwiny have been called up to the Junior National Team for the European Orienteering Championships, which will begin at the end of June in Spain. The young athletes earned their call-ups through hard work in training and successful performances in the national qualifiers. However, their trip is uncertain. The reason is financial.

The policy of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism has focused on supporting sports included in the Olympic Games programme. The Polish Orienteering Association, as the representative of non-Olympic sports, received a significantly reduced grant this year compared with previous years. The Association cannot fully fund athletes’ trips, even to the most important international competitions.

For the first time in the club’s history, its athletes have earned the honour of representing Poland at an event of such stature. Unfortunately, the trip may not take place. Through the IstotneInformacje.pl website, UKS “Tukan” Iwiny appeals to local institutions, politicians and business owners for financial support for the athletes.
