As it turned out, councillors cast 21 valid votes. 11 for Wojciech Kasprzyk and 9 for Tomasz Matyjewicz. (One councillor abstained).

The problem is that for such an election to be valid, an absolute majority of votes is required, and in the Bolesławiec County Council this amounts to... 12.

What happens next is not known. The deputy chairwoman of the council called a break.

We reported more extensively on the matter in the article Who will be the new head of the County Council? There are two candidates: Kasprzyk and Matyjewicz.

Update 11:29

Who will become chair of the council is not known for now. This item was removed from the agenda of the September session.

Update 14:27

As it turned out, Wojciech Kasprzyk DID BECOME the chair of the Bolesławiec County Council after all.

As B. Kuduk informed, due to differing interpretations of the law, the matter was consulted with the voivode’s oversight office, which informed the County that an absolute majority with 21 councillors is... 11. Wojciech Kasprzyk’s election is therefore legally valid.
