The incidents occurred at a sand mine in the Osiecznica municipality. As officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec established, from 12 May to 23 August, thick cable was gradually disappearing from a locked utility room on the premises of the aforementioned mine. The losses were estimated at nearly PLN 13,000.

Operational activities provided grounds to identify a suspect. The perpetrator turned out to be a 33-year-old mine employee.

The man had worked there for a year, and for three months had been taking property from the company to supplement his salary.

Police: – The suspect gave an explanation. During the day, he cut off a piece of cable measuring approximately 4 metres and carried it outside the company premises. After work, he recovered the copper, which he later sold.

They added: – He cut it piece by piece 17 times, until so little cable remained that it unwound and fell off the spool.

The 33-year-old stole a total of 55 metres of cable. He now faces between one and as many as ten years in prison.
