A leaflet placing the names of several local politicians next to the words “agents are among us” and numbers from the “Wildstein list” appeared on the streets of Bolesławiec on Thursday. A notification of a crime committed by the leaflet’s authors is to be submitted to the District Prosecutor’s Office by one of the people named in the leaflet. Which one? This has not yet been established.

The “Wildstein list” has unfortunately become a dangerous weapon in the hands of political provocateurs. They are distributing a leaflet in Bolesławiec featuring three names deliberately selected from the list. What may be the cause of unfair judgment, or even tragedy, for many people is, for its authors, an opportunity for a consequence-free game and an attempted political lynching.

The “Wildstein list” published on the Internet was not authorized by the Institute of National Remembrance. It is nevertheless probably a list containing the Institute’s personal-record database. The database contains the names of people who have files opened on them by the security services of the Polish People’s Republic. Such files were opened for collaborators and secret collaborators of these services, but also for people persecuted by them.

The list includes, among others, the names of people holding important positions in Bolesławiec’s local government and media. Some of these people have already applied to be recognized as victims, while others intend to do so in the near future. This will enable them to check whether the entries on the list concern them.
