Last weekend, the Polish Senior Olympic Taekwondo Championships were held in Luboń near Poznań. Bolesławiec was represented by two UKS Ilyo athletes: Yevgen Nkitin in the 68 kg category and Krzysztof Jasiński in the 54 kg category. For Krzysztof Jasiński, the championships in Luboń proved to be a dream debut in the senior category. The Bolesławiec athlete won the gold medal, defeating competitors from Poznań in both the semifinal and the final. Krzysztof Jasiński’s gold medal is the first achievement of such significance in the history of the Ilyo club in this Olympic competition category and sanctioned sport. Krzysztof Jasiński has already won the Polish Junior Championship title twice (2008–2009).

The second Bolesławiec athlete, Yevgen Nikitin, despite a favorable draw (without preliminary bouts), finished fifth, losing his quarterfinal bout to Bernard Daniel of AZS AWF Warszawa. A Bolesławiec native, now representing AZS AWF Wrocław, Małgorzata Kochańska also competed in the women’s under-73 kg category (she was the silver medalist at the 2009 Polish Senior Championships). Unfortunately, she lost in the quarterfinals to Martyna Swojak of the Wojskowy Klub Sportowy GRUNWALD Poznań.

The organizers of the most important senior Olympic Taekwondo event of the year were AZS OŚ Poznań and Czerwony Smok Poznań. This year, the Polish Championships in all age categories are being held with the use of Hogo (torso protectors) equipped with an electronic point registration system (EBP – Electronic Body Protektor).
