One of the items on the agenda of the August meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council was a vote on the draft resolution “on changes to the city budget for 2022.” The vote was preceded by a discussion, during which, among others, Dawid Sarbak, head of the Law and Justice councillors’ group, spoke. The councillor stated that the amount of PLN 80,000, included in the draft in question, “raises considerable controversy both in public opinion and within our group.”
He immediately pointed out that if Law and Justice councillors had to decide solely on the money for the fee collectors issuing fines in the Paid Parking Zone, they would vote against it, because they had opposed the PPZ from the very beginning. But since the draft resolution itself—as the group leader continued—contains “a lot of positive measures,” the Law and Justice councillors would vote in favour.
Piotr Roman, responding to these remarks, stated that this was not a bonus but a commission. He added that the City of Bolesławiec had created a system that would increase the activity of the fee collectors. For each fine issued, they will receive PLN 4.70 “in hand” (over PLN 7 gross). He also said that 99% of the fines issued by the aforementioned fee collectors are given to “people who think they will avoid the penalty.”
The resolution was passed unanimously.
