On Monday, August 15, on the occasion of Polish Armed Forces Day and the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, a ceremonial changing of the guard was held in Warsaw in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. During the ceremony, President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda presented general’s appointments to Polish Armed Forces soldiers in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

Among those appointed to the rank of brigadier general was Colonel Grzegorz Barabieda, commander of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade in Świętoszów.

Profile of General Grzegorz Barabieda

He is a graduate of the Higher School of Officers of the Mechanized Forces in Wrocław, as well as of studies and courses at, among others, the National Defence Academy. He served in, among others, the 33rd Mechanized Regiment and the 12th Armored Brigade, and from 2000 to 2005 held positions in the Operational Planning Board of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. Subsequently, until 2008, he was a specialist with Allied Command Transformation (HQ SACT) in Norfolk, USA. After returning to Poland, he served again in the General Staff until 2014, and then went to the USA as National Liaison Representative to HQ SACT. From 2018 to 2021, he served in, among others, the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces, where he was head of the Development Planning Board. From 2021, he headed the 9th Armored Cavalry Brigade. Since February this year, he has commanded the 10th Armored Brigade.
