Information is appearing in the media that the Biedronka chain wants to open its stores on non-trading Sundays. How? Onet.pl:

Biedronka wants to circumvent the regulations concerning the Sunday trading ban by opening book rental services in selected stores. At the beginning of July, the media reported that the chain of stores would try to circumvent the applicable regulations using the “medical facility” method.

Recently, the money.pl portal obtained instructions indicating that these would instead be “book rental services”:

Book stands are to be set up in Biedronka stores. Importantly, only customers with a Moja Biedronka loyalty card will be able to use the rental service. A PLN 3 deposit is to be charged for each rental. The deposit will be returned in the form of a voucher when the book is returned.

Journalists also obtained a list of stores:

Trade unionists from Solidarność are protesting. – Retail chains are once again trying to circumvent the law on Sunday trading. If this does not meet with a decisive response from the National Labour Inspectorate, it will mean that we live in a state made of cardboard, where the law can be broken with impunity and workers exploited – money.pl Alfred Bujara, head of the National Secretariat of Banks, Trade and Insurance of NSZZ “Solidarność,” told the outlet.

Time will tell whether any of the Biedronka stores in Bolesławiec will become a “book rental service.” What do you think? We invite you to join the discussion.
