On Friday, July 22, firefighters were called at around 7:00 a.m. to a fire in a residential building in Bolesławice. Two people were injured as a result of the fire: a twelve-year-old boy and an adult man.

“When we arrived at the scene, smoke was coming from the upstairs windows. A twelve-year-old boy was in the courtyard-side window, standing there and unable to get outside,” the operation commander, Senior Aspirant Grzegorz Korecki, recounts. “Using an extension ladder, we evacuated the child outside. We immediately provided first aid in the form of psychological support and passive oxygen therapy. After forcing entry into the building, we located an adult man in one of the rooms. We evacuated him as well. He was conscious and responsive, so we also provided him with psychological support and oxygen. When the ambulances arrived, the injured people were handed over to the medical team,” the commander says.

It turned out that the fire and smoke in the building had been caused by a burned-out freezer.

“We will determine whether it was a short circuit in the electrical system or an accidental ignition,” Grzegorz Korycki says. “At present, the building has been ventilated and cleared of smoke, and there is no danger. The power utility arrived to intervene. Before entering, we also disconnected the power as a precaution. In addition, we secured—and removed from the building—two 11-kilogram propane-butane cylinders,” the operation commander adds.
