The incident occurred during the night of July 25 on Pod Lasem Street in Bolesławiec. The property was occupied by Przemysława W., together with her daughter Barbara K. and her daughter’s acquaintance, Andrzej G. At around 4:00 a.m., W., the homeowner, was woken by the dog barking. She got up and went to the window. She saw flames and then smelled smoke. She immediately woke the other household members. Shortly afterward, the fire brigade arrived at the scene.

The rear part of the house and a section of the roof burned down. Józef K. was found to be responsible for the arson; he had repeatedly harassed Przemysława W. at home and at work, threatening to kill her. Moreover, K. had already been convicted in a final judgment of setting fire to firewood stacked against the wall of the same building and of making threats to take W.’s life. The first arson occurred in December 2004.

On April 23 this year, the District Court in Bolesławiec found K. guilty of the offenses with which he had been charged and sentenced him to 15 years in prison (however, it stipulated that the man may apply for conditional release only after 13 years). The ruling will be made public.

The judgment is not final.
