As Gazeta Wyborcza has established, the Church, as well as institutions and people subordinate to it, may receive as much as PLN 3 billion annually from the state budget. The largest amount—up to PLN 1.5 billion—is spent on the salaries of religion teachers working in schools, preschools and, more recently, even nurseries. Next is the Church Fund, established in 1950 and financed exclusively from the state budget since 1990, for which, according to reports by Gazeta Wyborcza, PLN 192 million was allocated in 2022. Grants for higher-education institutions and other educational facilities run by the Church absorb approximately PLN 500 million annually.
