Bolesławiec bomb disposal specialists intervened in forests in Zgorzelec County on June 28–29:

For the second day, we have been disposing of the wartime “Rusty Death” found at the site of the aftermath of a very large forest fire in the Pieńsk and Ruszów Forest Districts.

On the first day of operations, Bolesławiec soldiers discovered eight F-1 anti-personnel grenades. The bomb disposal specialists said: – Due to severe corrosion of the detonator safety pins, we had to detonate them where they were found.

They also stressed: – Unfortunately, explosive wartime remnants pose a very serious threat to firefighters.

As the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol reports on its social media profile:

Our page is dedicated to educating the public about the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance, misfires, and military-origin explosive and hazardous objects, as well as the rules for dealing with them when they are found.

It should be understood that explosives used in military technology are, in practice, completely resistant to weather conditions and retain their explosive properties regardless of their production date.

The bomb disposal specialists add:

If you have any suspicion about an object you have found, call the bomb disposal specialists.

They will remove the threat; they are properly equipped and trained to do so.

What should you do if you find unexploded ordnance or a misfire?

  1. Do not touch the object.
  2. Secure the area from bystanders, such as children, and mark it.
  3. Immediately report the matter by calling the emergency number 112; notify the police, municipal police, fire service, or forestry service.
