Of those attending the event, 35 people decided to take part in one of the three races. The competition was held in the following categories: primary schools and lower-secondary schools (1,500 m), seniors (2,500 m), and veterans (1,000 m).
In the primary-school and lower-secondary-school category, Eryk Kliwak won ahead of Rafał Sapeta (both from Bolesławiec). The race was very close, and the winner was determined by reviewing the camera footage. Third place went to a guest from Nowa Ruda, Krzysztof Jamróz.
The senior category was won by Bolesławiec resident Maciej Kolawski, who finished ahead of Mariusz Tokarczyk from Legnica, last year’s winner of the main race. Leszek Becla (Bolesławiec) finished third.
The veterans’ category—which was contested by members of Civic Platform—was won by Mirosław Sakowski (city councillor and president of BKG), ahead of Krzysztof Górecki. Third place went to Karol Stasik, who impressed with his excellent form (chairman of Civic Platform’s district structures in Bolesławiec). City councillors Cezariusz Rudyk and Andrzej Czeczutka, as well as Jacek Jurkiewicz, also completed the race. They were encouraged before the race—and supported afterwards—by the chairman of Civic Platform in Bolesławiec, Dariusz Kwaśniewski, who was injured this year.
The winners received commemorative trophies, backpacks, and certificates. A special distinction went to the youngest participant, Andrzej Krzemiński (7 years old). All participants received commemorative certificates for taking part in the race.
The organizers of the Bolesławiec “Poland Runs” campaign also prepared other attractions. A grilled snack was provided for the competitors and their companions. After the refreshments, participants could also play golf.
An interesting detail was that guests from Złotoryja took part in the races: a group of runners from the MKS Aurum Kobud sports club. The club is a co-organizer of the First Race Along the Trail of Extinct Volcanoes, which will take place on June 19–20 this year. All participants in the Poland Runs campaign were invited to the event. More than 70 people took part in the May running event, held in a sporting as well as family atmosphere. The event’s main organizer, Mirosław Sakowski, has announced that a third edition will be organized next year.
The running event in Bolesławiec was jointly organized by the Bolesławiec Golf Club (BKG) and Civic Platform.
