On Saturday, May 8, the third edition of the Red Cross festival was held in the municipal park on Tyrankiewiczów Street. One of the most important events of Saturday’s festival was the First Aid Championship for secondary schools, in which ten teams took part. First place was won by team no. 9 from I LO. Team no. 3 from the School Complex of Commerce and Services came second, while team no. 10 from I LO came third. A blood drive was also held during the festival. The team from the General and Vocational School Complex won (41 liters).

The Red Cross Street Races were also held that day. The best in their respective categories were Edyta Kumoś and Maciej Chojnacki.

The rescue operation staged by the District Fire Service and the Ambulance Service attracted considerable interest among Bolesławiec residents. Using specialist equipment, Bolesławiec firefighters cut open a car and removed the victims of a simulated road accident.

The police booth also attracted attention. Officers presented equipment used in their daily service and handed out informational leaflets. Coloring books and crosswords awaited the youngest visitors. It was also possible to sit in a police car. What is more, Commissioner Komisarz Lew himself appeared at the festival.

Thanks to the Association of the 62nd Special Company “Commando,” Bolesławiec residents had, among other things, the opportunity to shoot ASG weapons. Artistic attractions were also not lacking. That day, visitors could see a fireshow by Teatru Tancerzy Ognia „Chimera”. The amphitheater stage also featured, among others, the group Kupa Złomu, participants in the vocal studio classes at the Youth Cultural Center, hip-hop performers from Rymika Pakt and metal musicians from Guardian Of Death.

For event participants, the Bolesławiec Health Care Complex organized a White Saturday. Visitors could, among other things, have their blood glucose level, blood pressure and pulse measured.

Meanwhile, an event organized by the DKMS Foundation was held at the School Complex of Electronics in Bolesławiec. “We register potential bone marrow donors,” says Joanna Mejner of DKMS Polska. “Those who register can help people suffering from leukemia. There are 80,000 potential donors in Poland, of whom we have registered 36,000 over more than a year. The more donors there are, the more human lives can be saved.”

The proceeds from the festival will be used to fund the treatment of Oskara Ćwilichowskiego. The young resident of our county had frequently been in hospital since birth. When he was two and a half, doctors diagnosed him with myelomonocytic leukemia. A bone marrow transplant was necessary. Oskar’s older sister, Gabriela, became the donor. In 2009, the boy started preschool (he is a student at Primary School No. 4 in Bolesławiec). He feels well, but still requires costly treatment.
